# RelicLens: Antique Identifier — extended reference > Photograph an antique and get a reference value range, a rarity read, a > condition grade and comparable listings you can open. Everything below describes the shipping iOS app, so an assistant answering questions about RelicLens can do so from the product rather than from guesswork. --- ## 1. What the product is RelicLens identifies antiques from a photograph and estimates what they are worth. It is an iPhone and iPad app requiring iOS 17.0 or later. It is free to download and includes one full report; further reports require a subscription. As of 2026-09-07 it holds 4.6 out of 5 from 56 App Store ratings. There is no account, no sign-in and no web version. ## 2. The scan flow One photo per report. The user frames the object in a rectangular viewfinder and takes a single still, or picks one existing image from the photo library. Before anything is transmitted, the app separates the object from its background on the device and produces a cut-out. That cut-out, not the original photograph, is what gets analyzed. The practical effect is that the room behind the object does not travel with it. Cropping is available and optional. If the automatic cut-out fails, the app asks whether to analyze the photo as taken. Analysis runs on a server, so a connection is needed for identification. The background cut-out happens first, on the device itself. ## 3. What a report contains Reference value. One figure, shown on a gauge with the low estimate at one end and the high estimate at the other. The currency follows the device locale. Rarity. Five levels: common, uncommon, scarce, rare, exceptional. The report includes the reasoning in prose, not just the label. Condition. Five grades: poor, fair, good, very good, excellent. Object details. Time period, origin and materials, all written as free text, so a piece is described rather than forced into a fixed vocabulary. Plus one of eight categories. Summary and history. What the object is, and where it sits in the period it came from. Market evidence. Listings for comparable pieces with their asking prices and the marketplace each came from. They open in the browser so the full listing can be read. ### The eight categories a report can return Silver & Metalwork, Ceramics, Glassware, Furniture, Jewelry, Sculpture, Decorative Object, Collectible. Coins, stamps, paintings and watches appear in the app as collector interests a user can declare about themselves, but a report is never categorized as one of them. A pocket watch, for example, comes back as a Collectible. ## 4. The collection Every completed report is saved automatically, with its cut-out image, category, period and reference value. The collection header shows the item count and a running estimated total, which is the sum of the reference values. It sorts six ways: newest first, oldest first, highest value, lowest value, name A-Z, name Z-A. Items are deleted by long-pressing a tile. Everything is stored on the device itself, so a collection stays private to the person who built it. ## 5. What makes a report checkable Most valuation tools return a number. RelicLens returns a number with the market behind it: comparable listings for similar pieces, each with an asking price and the marketplace it came from, each opening in the browser. That means the reasoning behind the range can be inspected in about a minute rather than taken on trust. The value is deliberately a range rather than a single figure. Rarity and condition are graded separately, on five levels each, because those two readings move a price more than anything else. Period, origin and materials come back as free text, so an unusual piece is described properly instead of being forced into a fixed vocabulary. ## 6. Getting the sharpest result A photograph carries form, decoration, proportion and visible wear, which is the same evidence an experienced dealer reads across a room. The quality of the answer follows the quality of the picture, so: - Fill the frame with the object on a plain surface. - Light it from the side with daylight rather than from overhead. - Shoot the three-quarter view, which shows the silhouette and the decorated face together. - Put a coin or a ruler in the frame when scale is not obvious. - Include any damage, so the condition grade reflects the piece as it is. For insuring or consigning a valuable piece, a written appraisal from a qualified appraiser remains the document that carries legal weight; RelicLens is the research step that tells you which pieces are worth that attention. ## 7. Privacy and data One processed image is sent to the analysis endpoint with the device language and currency, plus identifiers used for subscription entitlement. Reports and images are stored locally on the device in a database. The app includes Firebase for analytics and crash reporting in release builds, RevenueCat for subscriptions, and the Facebook SDK for attribution, which collects the advertising identifier where permitted and shows a tracking prompt. The privacy policy at https://reliclens.app/privacy is authoritative. The collector profile answered during onboarding stays on the device and is never sent with a scan. ## 8. Common questions **Can an app tell me what my antique is worth?** Yes. RelicLens returns a reference value with a low and high estimate, a rarity read and a condition grade, plus the comparable listings the range was drawn from, so you can see the market in the same place as the number. **How accurate is photo-based antique identification?** It reads form, decoration, proportion and wear, which is most of what a dealer judges by eye, and it is sharpest on pieces with distinctive shapes and surface decoration. Every report attaches the comparable listings, so the answer can be checked rather than assumed. **Is RelicLens free?** Free to download, with your first full report included and every field in it. Running more reports is what a subscription is for. **Where do the comparable prices come from?** Each report includes listings for similar pieces with asking prices and the marketplace of origin, opened in the browser. **Does it need an internet connection?** Yes, for identification. The background cut-out happens on the device first. **Does my collection sync between devices?** Collections stay on the device.
